Art at the Institute was pleased to present an exhibition of paintings and graphics by two brothers, Roman and Borys Patchowsky. Curated by Walter Hoydysh, PhD, Director of Art at the Institute, this is the artists’ first join exhibition with The Ukrainian Institute of America in New York. The exhibition opened on December 13 and continued through December 31, 2011.
Borys Patchowsky, born 28 March 1931 in Peremyshl, Galicia, died 11 August 2010 in New York. Graphic artist; son of V. *Patchowsky. A postwar émigré in the United States since 1950, he graduated from City College in New York in 1956. He is a member of the Ukrainian Artists Association in New York, Detroit, and Chicago. In 1966 he had a solo exhibition at the Ukrainian Institute of America in New York.
Roman Patchowsky, born 11 November 1911 in Rava Ruska, Galicia, died 6 February 1968 in New York. Painter; son of V. *Patchowsky. A postwar émigré in the United States from 1950, he studied art at the National Academy and the Art Students’ League School and was active in the Ukrainian Artists’ Association in the USA. He did landscapes, portraits (eg, Marusia Bohuslavska and Baida Vyshnevetsky), and historical paintings (eg, The Escape of the Three Brothers from Azov, and Duma about a Storm on the Black Sea). Seven solo exhibitions of his works were held in New York. He wrote articles on art and compiled a collection of his father’s literary works.
